Book Review: Lauren Conrad Style

In the Hollywood scene, Lauren Conrad has always been a trendsetter since she starred in Laguna Beach. Now Lauren is taking her style from the magazines and red carpet events and putting it in writing. Released in October, Lauren wrote her very own style guide. Being an LC fan, I pre-ordered the book the instant I heard about. I figured it would be fun to review her book for my site because I know a lot of my readers admire her as much as I do!

Lauren’s new style guide is cleanly put together with tips on how to build your wardrobe. In the book, Lauren advises you on how to update your style, organize and edit  your closet, and how to put outfits together. Not only does she include the standard fashion tips, but she also features tricks on how to repair your clothing, how to find the best prices, and how to create “the illusion of a perfectly proportioned body.”

While her writing is decent and the photography beautiful, the book contains the same-old fashion tips and tricks that you would find in any other book. In short, I was disappointed in the lack of depth of the material. I unfortunately have read the same material in numerous other fashion guides, which was a little disappointing because I was very excited to hear what Lauren had to say.

However, I thoroughly enjoyed Lauren’s sections about hair and make-up. I have seen so many online tutorials on how to get the Lauren Conrad inspired look, but it was fun to hear Lauren’s view on her look and how to get it.

Another one of my favorite parts about the book is that Lauren’s voice is very strong throughout the writing. While the writing itself sounds like her words, the book is filled with cute anecdotes about her childhood and her high school years. At the beginning of the book in the introduction, there are a few pictures of Lauren as a little girl playing dress-up and it has to be one of the most precious things I’ve ever seen!

On a whole, the book was mediocre. Personally, I was hoping for a lot more, but it is a fantastic general guide to style because it is very broad and encompasses many topics.
