30 Day Hair Challenge: Donna Karan Inspired

Today I felt extra fashion-y and I wanted to try something inspired from Fashion Week in NY. The Donna Karan Spring 2011 collection came to mind. In the show, the models had an easy, messy bun.

However, my hair is layered, so getting a “smooth” messy bun (if there is such a thing) is hard. I put all of my hair to one side, then pinned the opposite side. Next, I teased the roots of my hair to get more volume. I took the ends of my hair and pinned them underneath into a bun.

I adore the look! It doesn’t pull heavily on my scalp and is totally comfy! The only thing is since I did the bun on the lower side, it hits my jacket and gets messed up. I have to fix it every so often because it gets knocked out of place.

 

Get the Look: Black Swan

The recent release, Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman, has ruffled the feathers of America, movie critics, and most of all, fashionistas and costume designers. The film’s stunning costumes were designed by Amy Westscott, who was creative costume director for The Wrestler as well as award-winning television show, Entourage.

30 Day Hair Challenge: The Messy Top Knot

DAY ONE

The top knot is a classic runway look. It can be messy, sleek, braided, or bulbous. It’s quick and easy to do, yet perfect to add some sophistication to your look in a second.

Personally, I like to do this look when I am running late in the mornings. It’s super simple. All you need is a hair tie and if you are feeling up to it, some hairspray. It’s a good look to do when you want to keep your hair out of your face for the day. If you have bangs like I do, I usually pin them up with bobby pins to get a cleaner look.
